Hello! I got directed here from your dancing blog as I want to become a dancer so much and I am starting dancing when it starts up again. I was just wondering good ways to become fitter and leaner? To tone up a bit? Haha, I have a gym pass for the holidays so anything with that too would help so much! Thank you! (: Also, what are good stretches to become more flexible? I am already rather flexible, but I would like to become more flexible. The ultimate dancer. :P

Yes, toning is the best way to become lean! So many dancers are afraid of resistance workouts because they don’t want to become bulky! But strength training doesn’t bulk you unless done in excess. So definitely do plenty of weight training and leg work and that will really hope make you look much for tones and lean, and it will also greatly improve your dancing! Ever since I started doing a lot of leg work my arabesques and developés have gotten MUCH better because I have more strength in my legs! So strength is actually super important in dancing.

Here is my flexibility video! I do these stretches almost daily and I’m even much more improved since this video! I hope this helped!

Good luck! :)

Today's Workout:

I’m still extremely sore from my workout two days ago, so I took it some what easy with 30 minutes on medium resistance elliptical and a little gentle stretching to ease my soreness.

Yesterday I did 25 on the elliptical on medium resistance because I got a last minute text from a friend that she was coming over!

A small workout is better than no workout! :)

my main motivation for working out is food too! haha especially dessert. i seriously love food so much, but exercise has grown on me the more i do it. i love classes like zumba, but running is actually becoming something i like rather than a chore, so that is some of my motivation too :) sorry if thats completely random but when i read the survey i was thinking pretty much exactly what you wrote haha

Seriously, food is the best.

I’m jealous! I wish I could get into running :\ I’m just not a runner at all.

No, I love hearing from you guys! :)

Fitness Survey

I decided to do this for fun. Feel free to reblog or post in an ask and do it yourself so I can read it too!

Favorite time to workout:
In the morning! I feel like I always get a better workout and my metabolism stays high the whole day! But I rarely get around to morning work outs except for on breaks :(

Favorite place to workout:
In-Shape gym! I love that place! But I also love working out in my house. I’m lucky enough to have workout freak parents, so we have a big gym upstairs.

Favorite workout shirt:
I love my black Nike t-shirt that’s really breathable, but now that I have my “Strong is the New Skinny” tank, I think that’ll be it! ;)

My favorite sports bras are the thick strapped ones by Champion at Target. I have so many colors, and they came out with more recently!

Favorite workout shorts/pants:
Definitely my Champion shorts from Target! I have blue and black, and I want more!

Favorite song to listen to while working out:
Judas by Lady Gaga, but the Rehab Remix of it! It’s got such a good beat and it makes me push myself! But I love watching shows (especially Planet Earth) while working out because it takes my mind away from the fact that my heart is pounding out of my chest.

Most used form of cardio:
Elliptical, no doubt.

Weights exercise you like best:
The ruberyish ones from Target.

Favorite postworkout snack:
Weeeeell, the best post workout snack is a peanut butter banana sandwich, but I really like having smoothies. :)

How do you get to your place of working out?:
Drive or walk upstairs!

Would you workout if you didn’t have to in order to stay fit/healthy?:
What! No way! If I could stay fit and healthy with out working out, there would be no point! I’d still stay active by swimming, dance, and such, but I wouldn’t just go upstairs on the treadmill.

Favorite thing to do to pass the time during cardio:
Watch TV… or talk to my dog who walks on the treadmill when I workout!

How many times a week do you exercise:
I try to almost everyday, but typically 2-5 times.

What gets you most motivated to workout?:
Food. Honestly. I wish I had another motivation, but I don’t. I LOVE food. I worked out for almost 2 hours today so I wouldn’t feel guilty eating a slice of my grandma’s amazing banana cream pie. I love food.

Workout alone, or with a partner/s:
I usually do it alone, but I LOVE having a partner! All last spring I worked out with my friend Jenelle and all summer I worked out with my best friend Emily!

Participate in any fitness classes?:
YES! I love Zumba, Cycling, Pilates… I want to take a kickboxing class!

my mom picked up me and my aunt today to see who was heavier (we both said 130) and my mom proceeded to say how muc lighter my aunt was... in my defense i have more muscle and i just ate and i still feel like shit though

Why feel like shit? You know your body. Muscle weighs more than fat and you just ate. Not to mention just picking some one up is a terrible way to tell “who’s heaviest.”

after we had breakfast and opened everything, my sisters and I worked out with our new yoga and exercise stuff. it was super fun and kept me away from the fudge! but I'm definitely running tomorrow, as well. (:

Same here! Woke up, had coffee and a homemade cinnamon roll, hard workout, then ate like no one was watching! A love a good post-holiday-eating work out.

Anyone else going to be working out first thing tomorrow? I can feel this delicious Italian Christmas dinner and piece of banana cream pie just chillin’ in my stomach right now.

Worth every calorie.

Isnt your blog basically as bad as thinspo?

Not even close. Thinspo is focused on getting thin, no matter what the cost. It’s typically surrounded by unhealthy methods of losing weight to get to unreasonable body ideals such as thigh gaps and bones showing. This blog is about healthy weight loss and getting fit and strong. There’s nothing bad about supporting lifting weights and healthy eating.

After Christmas, I plan on starting to diet and exercise but I am kind of stuck on the dieting part. Usually when I diet, I count calories because if I don't, I'll overeat, and the food is usually very unhealthy. When I count calories, I don't eat enough. I would have a net intake of around 500-900. On bad days, it would get as low as 300. Can you suggest healthy foods that make your body feel as if you are eating more than you really are?

I had that problem as well. I’d try and predict how much I was going to eat for dinner, so I’d under eat all day. Just remember that 1200 is absolutely MINIMUM. So if you can, especially if you’re exercising, eat at least 1400 calories. When you count, remember that you can eat decent sized meals, as long as they’re pretty healthy. At 1400 calories you can easily eat three 400 cal meals with two 100 cal snacks.

As for foods that keep you full longer, fiber is your friend! Broccoli, spinach, granola, nuts, etc. Anything whole grain. Lots of fiber! But remember to eat enough calories so your body doesn’t store everything you eat!

Anyone else asking for a Gym Motivation shirt for Christmas?

I sure am! I want “Strong is the new skinny” first, and I’ll try and collect some more later.

Which one do you want most?

how long does it take before a binge shows up as weight gain?

I’d assume after the food has gone through your digestive system. Probably about a day?

However, binges are not eating some junk food during the day. Binge eating is a serious medical problem, so if you are really binge eating you should go talk to your doctor.

Just wanted to say something to the anon who asked about eating back calories you burned off working out: yes, you should eat them back, because it is not just what you eat and work off, it is also your BMR. Your NET intake should be 1200c a day. But the main thing is to listen to your body: if you are hungry, eat something! If you aren't, don't worry about it. If you can't tell the difference between physical and emotional hunger, eat something small, healthy, and filling.

I have a question I've been wondering about for a while (I hope I can explain it clearly)... Let's say I have eaten 1200 calories already, then I go to the gym and burn off 200 calories. If my goal is to eat around 1300 calories per day, do I need to make up for those I burnt off by eventually eating 300 more calories, or do I keep counting from the 1200 I was at before? Sorry if that's a confusing explanation. I hope it makes sense, haha.

It’s actually still in debate about whether one should eat back the lost calories after reaching 1200.

Losing weight is about making a calorie deficit. The way I see it is if you stick to eating 1200 calories and then exercise, then eat back the lost calories, you’re not making deficits. You’re eating the same amount everyday.

I personally don’t eat back the extra unless it’s really low. Say I eat 1200 calories then burn 600 calories through exercise, I think that’s a little too intense and I’ll eat back a few hundred to make up for the hard work my body did. But if I eat 1200 and only burn 200-300, I think it’s fine to not eat them back.
