This blog is about a healthy lifestyle. We understand that there are no quick fixes or crying over the number on the scale. We are weight lifters, fast runners, and clean eaters. This is a change for the better and for the long run. There are no short cuts, only hard work.
And we love every second of it.

“Why won't my weight go below 125? It seems to fluctuate between 125 and 130 every two weeks. What am i doing wrong? I can feel my muscles getting stronger, but i dont feel any smaller.”
-Anonymous

I don’t know your height or frame, so I can’t really answer you. That could be your body’s set point because of your bone structure, or you may have hit a platea, or you’re just replacing muscle with fat. Sorry, I can’t really tell without knowing more about your body type! It can be any number of things. If you feel yourself getting stronger than it’s probably the latter. I 100% recommend your throw your scale away and use a measuring tape instead. Keep up strength training with HIIT.

“Do you have any idea for a beginners workout? Like, what you would "prescribe" someone who wants to look fit even though their BMI isn't overweight or anything?”
-Anonymous

I’d “prescribe” strength training and HIIT! Weight lifting and sculpting exercises (like yoga, pilates, situps, crunches, etc) 3-5 days a week for at least hour sessions with 20-25 minutes of intense HIIT at the end. As well as a healthy diet of lots of fruits, veggies, protein, and whole grains! If you’re close to your body’s set point, building muscle and burning fat is the best way to look more fit.

“What exercise do you recommend for toning ab muscles? Are planks good for that?”
-Anonymous

Oh yeah! Planks are awesome for abs. All kinds of planks, side, forearm, one arm, one leg… Sit ups, twists, alternating legs… there’s tons of ab exercises. Just google some!

“I've started doing squats and sit ups everyday. I've started on 30 of each and I'm bringing them up by 5 every 2days. Would you suggest any other exercise that I should do with these ?”
-Anonymous

Anything else! Squats and sit-ups aren’t a sufficient “work out.” They’re more like something you do in the morning or before bed. I’d add some cardio and more strength than just those two.

“To have a flat stomach, is it more of having a low body fat percentage, or having good ab muscles?”
-Anonymous

Both! I’m 16% body fat which is pretty stinkin’ low and only my top two abs are visible. So I just think at this point I need to focus on more muscle!

“How do you think the before/after with the butt happened? Like, what kind of squats? Or how much weight on a machine? :)”
-Anonymous

I looked at her blog and she said she did 50-200 bodyweight squats everyday for a month. Back when I was doing 50-100 squats a day my butt shaped up super fast. I’d do like 25 hip-width and 25 wide-stance just to hit different muscle groups.

Weights will speed up results though, for sure.

“If your muscles are sore from a workout, how long should you rest before you workout again? Or do you just rest until the soreness is all gone?”
-Anonymous

If you are extremely sore, meaning just walking or basic movements hurt, then I’d rest at least a day or two. If you’re sore, but it feels good to move and stretch, then you’re probably fine to do a light workout.

“Is cheese healthy? Any suggestions on how to eat it in moderation?”
-Anonymous

Cheese, like all dairy, does have benefits, but it’s can also be too much if not eaten in moderation, like everything else! I LOVE CHEESE.

I like those Laughing Cow spreadable things. They’re only 35 calories a triangle and so yummy. I also love Babybell little cheese rounds. So creamy and satisfying. I like those because they’re pre-portioned, but every once in a while I buy a block of smoked gouda or chedder & caramelized onion cheese and have them as a snack with crackers :)

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO NOT EAT CHEESE.

“when you first started doing squats did your hips hurt? some days I do them and it can be painful on my hips.”
-Anonymous

Nope, I’ve never had that problem. That could be a flexibility issue. Do you have really tight hips? If you sit on the floor with your feet together and close to your body, are your knees really high? Maybe tight quads and psoas muscles.

Warm up plenty before doing squats. Try changing up your stance too. Maybe try closer together or wider legs.

If it persists, I’d ask a doctor!

“What do you think is the best way to get rid of tummy fat?”
-Anonymous

You can’t spot reduce fat loss, so there is no “best way.” However, I found that for me personally, when I was kind of stuck in a rut, eliminating refined sugars almost completely, switching to completely whole grains, and upping my protein intake helped me start burning more fat, which happened to come out of my tummy area.

Experiment with your diet and see what works best for you! For my body, high protein is the most efficient.

“Question relating to what another anon asked about eating. I have recently started resistance training, been going for maybe a month now and enjoying it. One thing that concerns me is that I do not think I consume enough calories to really support it. I am male and have always been light with low bodyfat and eaten very little, probably never had more than 2000 calories in a day in my life, just not really that hungry. Wondering if you have any thoughts on that? Thanks for the great blog”
-Anonymous

My boyfriend is the same way. He’s really tall, but pretty thin naturally and just never feels hungry. Try getting your calories in healthy ways like protein shakes, avocados, nuts, nut butters, and whole grains! It’ll help you get your calorie count up with healthy things that benefit your body! Hope this helps!

Thank you!
